Course details

The Operate Truck or Trailer Mounted Attenuators course will provide the skills and knowledge required to operate a truck or trailer-mounted attenuators when carrying out traffic management activities at maintenance and civil construction worksites.

It includes planning and preparing to operate a Host vehicle fitted with a truck or trailer-mounted attenuator, using radio communication, operating and positioning the truck or trailer-mounted attenuator, using other traffic controls, and cleaning up.

Pre-requisites

• A USI number -  https://www.usi.gov.au/students/get-a-usi
• A white card
• Current TMI card/accreditation
• Minimum of an MR Driver’s license valid in Queensland.

Course Delivery

The course is delivered in one day, comprising of two activities.

1. In-class lectures and activities, and
2. Hands-on activities. The student will be introduced to the host vehicle, the attenuator and its operation, any fittings and devices attached to it, and their operation and maintenance requirements.

At the end of the course, participants will be required to complete a theory assessment.

• Once the student has attended the one-day course, they are required to produce evidence of works performed on a live job site, operating a TMA vehicle in various situations, i.e. static setup and management & mobile works, under the supervision of an experienced and qualified TMA operator. 

Students should confirm they have access to this with their employer, as Evolution Training does not provide this service.

• Three setups are required and must be completed within 3 months of attending the initial training.

Attendance Requirements

Students must provide to the trainer on the day -

• A white card
• Current TMI card/accreditation
• Minimum of an MR Driver’s license valid in Queensland.

Students cannot be under (or appear to be under) the influence of medication, alcohol, illicit drugs, or substances or are adversely affected by fatigue.

Students must comply with all requirements in the Student Handbook

Certification

Upon completing all required components of the RIIRTM301E Operate Truck or Trailer Mounted Attenuator course, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIRTM301E Operate Truck or Trailer Mounted Attenuators & a plastic wallet card.
