Traffic Management Implementer NSW COURSE

This course is for those personnel responsible for traffic management on a site to implement a work zone traffic management plan. Implementation of a traffic management plan allows the qualification holder to deploy a work site, monitor traffic control and safety of the worksite personnel, and remove signs and devices at the completion of work.

  • Course runs over 1 day Theory + On the job practical assessment
  • Assessment is done onsite after the student has completed sufficient work experience

Units of Competency:

  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and work procedures
  • RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plan
  • RIIRIS301E Apply risk management processes
  • RIIWHS303 Position, set up and program portable traffic control devices

On successful completion of this Course you will receive a ‘Statement of Attainment’ for the Nationally Recognised units of competency listed and a SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Work Training Card.

Topics Covered

  • Identify safety implications of traffic control at road works and personal responsibilities
  • Set up, monitor and close down traffic control devices
  • Operate a two-way radio correctly and effectively
  • Check, clean and store equipment on completion of work and close down a TGS/TMP
  • Know the basic function of the TGS/TMP system
  • Locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures
  • Maintain traffic incident reports
  • Comply with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures
  • Removing or covering signs and devices after work completion
  • Comply with State/ Territory regulations on three separate live traffic projects
  • Selecting, wearing and caring for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Adapt to all work health and safety (WHS) and operational requirements
  • Use the site/location assessment, distinguish landmarks and carry out authorised risk control
  • Conduct an onsite check of a TGS/TMP to identify any unexpected risks/hazards
  • Plan for emergencies that may arise
  • Ensure spacing between signs and traffic control devices is in line with a TGS/TMP
  • Understand speed, environment, type and class of vehicles, traffic density, sight lines, environmental conditions, weather patterns and surface type

  • Pre-course:
    • Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills Test (the LLN will be emailed to you before the start of the course the LLN must be completed and must returned or brought with you on the first day of the course),
    • Student Handbook,
    • Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number)
  • Classroom Theory Assessment: 8 hours
  • Practical Training Assessment: 6 hours
  • Assessment Onsite: onsite assessment to be completed by working on Three (3) worksites with the final assessment to be undertaken and supervised by a SafeWork NSW approved trainer/assessor
